Responsibilities:
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with patient intake to ensure efficient clinic flow.
- Measure and document vital signs, pain assessments, and patient histories accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Prepare examination rooms and assist providers.
- Administer or assist with biologic and DMARD (disease-modifying antirheumatic drug) infusion therapy under provider supervision, following established protocols.
- Coordinate and track laboratory orders, including inflammatory markers (ESR, CRP, ANA panels) and imaging referrals relevant to rheumatologic conditions.
- Manage clinical documentation, including accurate ICD coding for rheumatologic diagnoses, and maintain up-to-date patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Support prior authorization processes for specialty medications and biologics, which are common in rheumatology practice.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medication instructions, injection techniques, and follow-up care.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of clinical and infusion areas while strictly adhering to infection control protocols.
Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) preferred.
- Strong foundational knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical practices, with a particular interest in autoimmune and musculoskeletal conditions.
- Experience in a specialty or primary care clinical setting preferred; rheumatology experience is a plus.
- Proficiency with EHR systems for documentation, scheduling, and coordination of care.
- Familiarity with ICD coding and prior authorization workflows, especially for specialty and biologic medications.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach with the ability to build rapport with patients managing chronic, long-term conditions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
